Army of Darkness

Movie Reviews

So with my absolute love for the first two Evil Dead movies you'd assume I was a big fan of the final part of the trilogy Army of Darkness. I'd like to say that I loved every bit of it but that'd be a lie and while it has grown on me with repeat viewings my first viewing left me a little disappointed. Switching genres this one was a fantasy comedy with heavy emphasis on the comedy. (Read the full review)

Evil Dead II

Movie Reviews

I was reluctant at first to even attempt writing about Evil Dead II as for myself it remains the one of the greatest horror movies ever produced. Then I considered how appropriate the film was considering that a portion of the movie was also a remake, I'm writing this review more to advise those who have never seen the movie to go out and watch it now regardless of whether you have ever seen the original. Scary Movie 4

Movie Reviews

I could probably just copy and paste my review for Scary Movie 3 here and just change the plot description as the films are so darn similar. Even so I know that Part 4 was seen as the bastard child of the series even with fans of the franchise but even so I think there are a lot of improvements that elevate this movie from turd to sugar coated turd. Scary Movie 3

Movie Reviews

While it had some potential Scary Movie 2 pretty much revealed that there wasn't really that much wiggle room to continue parodying the same material. Of course it made a bucket load of money and a sequel was inevitable but this time producers wanted a lower rating to maximise gross returns at the cinema (greedy bastards). The Wayans opted not to return so in stepped David Zucker creator of the Airplane! Movies. (Read the full review)

Scary Movie 2

Movie Reviews

While I was able to write in defence of the first Scary movie which has gathered a tarnished reputation over the years the same can't be said about the sequels. To prepare to watch Scary Movie 5 I thought it best to work my way through the existing franchise each decline in quality as the films progress so my level of expectations should be lowered to the correct level. Even so Scary Movie 2 is not all bad. (Read the full review)

Scary Movie

Movie Reviews

Scary Movie 5 hit cinemas this weekend and has been universally panned by critics. While I have no assumptions that the movie is anything less than drek (The trailer alone was an abomination to comedy) I did notice the scathing hate thrown at the existing movies in the franchise. I think many people are confusing the series' legacy with the dire spoof movies released over the last decade. The first Scary Movie film was a great homage to horror cinema.(Read the full review)

I wanted to go back to where the Twilight Saga began for various reasons. First out of curiosity to see if the movie holds up under repeat viewings (I'm not the intended target demographic and I can't say I was enamoured with the movie) but ultimately to try and find a genuine reason why so many people have a seething hate for the series. Putting a few minor niggles aside there is ultimately nothing wrong with the first move. (Read the full review)

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 There's no denying that Hollywood is a greedy bunch serving up remakes/sequels/reboots no matter the quality just to make a quick buck. I've been fine with it generally (I am quite the sequel hound) and can find enjoyment from the shoddiest production but a worrying trend has begun. The splitting of a single work across two features bears no merit and Breaking Dawn Part 1 is the worst of the bunch.(Read the full review)

Friday the 13th (2009)

Movie Reviews

While I'm not opposed to remakes I can't help but feel a little fatigue that they have become so frequent. When it comes to this horror franchise in particular each movie already felt like a rehash of the last. In fact it took 3 movies to actually define its presence meaning a rebooted universe could fix the problems of the past.(Read the full review)

Jason X

Movie Reviews

At what point was it decided that when a horror franchise hits a certain age it's time to move the events into space? Joining films such as Leprechaun 4 and Hellraiser: Bloodlines the Friday the 13th series blasts Jason into the final frontier. Typically the death kneel for movies in the horror industry (Read the full review)
